American dancer and choreographer, Aly
Rose (Luo Hong Mei) is proud to introduce Phoenix, a
striking 45 minute dance production that is at once both
airborne and grounded. This piece reveals the paradox and
the dialogue between the living who are unconscious of the
world around them and the dead who are aware of all
reality. Seen through the eyes of one who has just
embarked on death’s journey, the ironies and joys of
having been alive are suddenly made apparent.
Aly Rose has had extensive experience, having worked,
studied and lived in China for nine years. She recently
starred as the principal dancer in the dance drama Nanjing
1937 with the Chinese National Song and Dance Drama
Troupe. And is the only foreigner to have ever graduated
from the Beijing Dance Academy, the finest dance
institution for dance in Asia.
